MY REVIEW:
As part of FMB Blog tour I agreed to read this book without
really reviewing the synopsis to see if I would be interested. I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its
cover, but this one grabbed my attention, just like the story did. This was
definitely not my usual read. I don’t particularly care for overly religious
storylines and this one has just that. However, the author did a very good job in
building her characters and the world they live in. Based on the Turkish
culture and the Islamic faith, this novel addresses some very controversial and
difficult topics such as oppression of women, rape scenes and prolonged
violence.
At times I found myself wanting to put this book down and
not finish. However I kept thinking about it and wanted to know what was going
to happen. I of course continued reading.
The author did a wonderful job keeping the pace of the book going with lots of action. Her descriptions of the scenes were riveting, making me feel as if I was there experiencing it first hand, which at times was a bit overwhelming. I immediately grew to hate the RTK because
they were so corrupt, their intimidation and brutal treatment of the people was
horrifying yet accurate in how people tend to let even the tiniest bit of power go to
their head.
Overall, this book really is a good read if you can
handle cruelty and violence against women (including rape), racism and religion
with a main character, on his faith, becomes a superhero rivaling Batman in his
own avenging tortured dark soul way.
