My Publishing Journey or How I Became a Published
Author…
Initially I was filled with trepidation when I thought about getting my novel published. It was mainly the
usual jitters I imagine most authors experience at having their hard work gleamed over and picked apart by
readers, like vultures swooping down on the weak and dying. But then I decided to use a pseudonym, an
easy anonymous solution to avoid scathing critical barbs. But maybe I’m a big coward, haha.
So with Joe King ready to absorb any blame, I finally became a published author thanks to self-publishing,
Amazon owned company Createspace. After checking around other self-publishing firms I decided on
Createspace due to their efficient and helpful manner, and the company’s competition beating royalty
gains. After I successfully published my first book, I immediately began work on the sequel, spurred on by
the knowledge that next installment of my F.U.B.A.R. series will be just as easy to get out there.
So far, publishing has been the easy part. The difficulty lies in gaining groundswell from readers who may
not care to take the time to give an independent book a chance. But I think perseverance will allow one to
overcome this obstacle.
Joe King woke up one day, unsure of where he came from or where he was going. To this day he blindly stumbles through life hoping everything will turn out okay. At some point, he worked as a janitor in a mental health hospital, where he discovered an obscene amount, emphasise obscene, of hair on the carpet of one of the counselling rooms. Naturally, he became convinced that the patient must have been a werewolf, there is simply no other explanation. Not having any silver or dog collars to hand he decided to knock the idea around which snowballed into F.U.B.A.R., his first novel and the first instalment of the series.
When he's not writing, he enjoys reading books and comic books, begrudgingly trying to emulate the fine work of the talented comic book artists, loathing himself, slapping the bass in a rock band, loathing himself a bit more and playing guitar.
