Description:
"A
proper young lady should never attend a Masque...Aphrodite is no lady.
Betrothal to
the callous Lord Blackhall painted a future devoid of love. Upon his death,
Lady Caroline Wilmont is promised to the younger brother. Caroline refuses to
allow her first taste of desire to be at the hands of a man who would rather
have any woman but her. This, her last night of freedom, is to be a memory of
lust that she can take with her throughout her loveless marriage. As Aphrodite,
Caroline attends a masque determined to find a man to initiate her into the
intimacies of erotic love.
Taran
Robertson, Viscount of Blackhall, makes no secret that he despises his
obligation to marry the Sassenach heiress chosen for him by his father. As a
last foray before his wedding, he attends a masque. However, the spirited vixen
he meets and seduces has secrets...secrets that just may reveal he’s to have an
improper wife."
My Review:
It's been a while since I have read a romance not based on paranormal and supernatural characters. I love the fact that Lady Caroline sneaks off to attend the masque the night before she is to wed Lord Blackhall. The story has lots of twists and turns which made my eyebrows raise a few time thinking 'Oh yeah?', at other times thinking 'really?'. The hot and steamy loves scenes were well written. The only drawback is that there was so many sex scenes with the same wording that I tended to wanted the to hurry up and move along so I could get back to the plot. Given the time frame the story was written, I'm not quite sure of some of the terminology that is used and even though she is considered "An Improper Wife" would a nineteen year old woman really use that kind of language back in the 1700's? Getting past that, I really did enjoy reading An Improper Wife and look forward to reading more works from these authors. I would give this story 3.5 stars.

DeleteI'd love to know what the fantasy aspect is. Such an interesting genre mix; since I like both historical romance & fantasy.

ReplyDeletethis particular novel doesn't have fantasy elements, but I have several fantasy stories in my backlist. And right now I'm working on a fun sci-fi fantasy. Tarah and I have a fantasy paranormal story together called Born Into Fire. It's available from Loose Id. Here is the link to the book on Amazon
